As approved by the Committee, cash and cheques will no longer be accepted within the club, except for book & CD sales and airgun refills. Although, these payments can also be made by card if preferred. Please note that this change will not apply to the kitchen, as Chris, Hazel, and Alan manage breakfast and related transactions separately.
The reasons for this change are as follows:
- Risk of theft associated with handling cash
- Errors and shortages in cash handling and reconciliation
- The additional administrative burden involved in reconciliations, bookkeeping, and trips to the bank
- Audit trail: Card transactions provide a clear record, which is not available with cash or cheques
- Paul Eatough, who previously handled banking and provided spreadsheet reports, is no longer able to perform these duties, and I am unable to take on this extra workload
- The ongoing issue of late or non-payment of subscriptions, which creates unnecessary work for both myself and the membership team, particularly when payments are not made via standing order or annual lump sum as required by club rules
Effective 31 December 2024, cash and cheques will no longer be accepted for any payments within the club. For those who currently pay by cash or cheque, you have approximately 4 weeks to transition to standing orders or card payments.
You can log in to the members area of the club website and use the Bank Payment Details page to assist you in setting up your standing order or internet banking payment.
