There’s a lot happening in the LSR this month, from ongoing competitions to exciting future events and even some improvements to our training equipment. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming up.
Competition Updates
The DCSRA LSR Teams Winter League is progressing smoothly, with all teams shooting their cards on time. It’s great to see everyone keeping up with the schedule and performing well. The DCSRA LSR Individual Winter League is also in full swing, with competitors continuing to push themselves and put in strong performances. Keep up the good work, and best of luck to everyone still competing!
Upcoming Competitions & Events
With the winter leagues well underway, we’re already looking ahead to the next season. Recruitment for the Exeter and District Summer League will begin soon, so if you’re interested in taking part, keep an eye out for announcements.
We’re also planning an internal fun timed competition within the club, which should offer a great opportunity for both new and experienced shooters to test their skills in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. More details will follow as we finalize the format and date.
On a larger scale, the Okehampton Smallbore Club March Open 2025 is scheduled to take place on the 15th, and 16th of March. This event always attracts strong competition and promises to be a great opportunity for those looking to challenge themselves.
Another exciting event on the calendar is the Steel Challenge, set for the 12th and 13th of April. This fast-paced shooting discipline is always a thrill, and we encourage members to get involved.
Action Air
The Action Air session held in December was well attended and, as always, Stacey put together some fantastic and increasingly elaborate stages. It’s been great to see this discipline grow, and we’re looking forward to the next session, which is scheduled for March 16th. If you haven’t yet given Action Air a try, this would be a great opportunity to jump in and experience it for yourself.
Range Maintenance – De-leading Project
Keeping the range in top condition is always a priority, and we are currently working with Paul and Philip to organize a work party in early April for a much-needed de-leading session. Maintaining a clean and safe environment for shooting is essential, and we’ll be looking for volunteers to help with the effort. If you’re able to lend a hand, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Beyond our regular competitions and training sessions, we’re looking into expanding our extra-curricular activities. One idea on the table is another trip to the Zero One range, which proved to be a popular outing last time. We’re also considering other events and experiences that could provide variety and new challenges for our members. To help us gauge interest, we’re conducting an informal survey—so if you have any ideas or suggestions, let us know!
New Training Equipment – Balance Board Project
In the spirit of continuous improvement, Ian Russell is working on designing and building a balance board to be used for LSR, 10m Rifle, and Precision Pistol training. Balance and stability play a crucial role in shooting performance, so this should be a valuable tool for anyone looking to refine their technique. We look forward to seeing how it turns out!
With so much going on, there’s plenty to get involved with at the club. Whether you’re competing, training, or just enjoying the sport, we appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and participation. Keep practicing, and we’ll see you at the range!
