Winter Wrap-Up and Spring Start

As the dust settles on the LSR Winter season, it’s fair to say we’ve had a solid run across the club, with team and individual performances to be proud of.

DCSRA LSR Teams Winter League

  • A TeamWinners of Division 1
  • B Team — 4th in Division 2
  • C & D Teams — 1st and 2nd in Division 3
  • E Team — 3rd in Division 4
  • F Team — 2nd in Division 5

Special mentions to Eleanor RJ for Best Lady and Junior Champion. Mike Taylor for Veterans runner-up and Luke Rogers for most improved runner-up.

The results for the DCSRA Individual League are provisional so I will share them next month.

Busy Weekend with Steel Challenge and Bunny Shoot

There was some excellent shooting and also some sprinting by some members who managed to compete in both the Steel Challenge and the Pinhoe Bunny Shoot.

In the Bunny Shoot, Tibor Csapo claimed 1st place in A Class, with Dan Truscott taking 2nd. Over in B ClassMarcus Whitely secured the top spot, followed by Philip Pashute in 2nd. The Rapid Rabbit event saw Marcus on top again, with Tibor finishing 2nd, Dan 3rd, and Philip rounding out the standings in 4th. A strong showing all round with some great shooting under pressure.

At the Steel Challenge, Matt Cockram placed 3rd in A Class, while in B ClassTibor took 1st with Richard Randle-Jones close behind in 2nd. Luke Daniels led the way in Alex Wynne Class, with Nick Stephens taking 2nd place. In the Freshman categoryNoor Hassan earned a well-deserved 3rd place — a particularly impressive result given the strong competition from GB gallery rifle shooters.

Range De-leading

Thanks to Philip, Giles, and Ian for taking on the de-leading on 6th April. Philip is also working to reclaim the lead for scrap – every bit helps! A range tidy and deep clean is being planned – this will follow once the kitchen materials are sorted.

Equipment Donations

We’ve recently added two welcome additions to our club’s rifle lineup. A new under-lever LSR rifle is now in circulation, many thanks to Robert for collecting it and getting it straight into use (it’s already proved its worth at the Bunny Shoot). We’ve also received a donated CZ432 bolt-action rifle, with thanks to AW for the donation and to Philip Pashute for generously providing a scope to go with it. Much appreciated all round.

Extra-Curricular Activities

There’s plenty going on beyond the usual competitions to keep everyone engaged. A Zero 1 Range Day is scheduled for 8th June, with more details to follow soon. For those looking to try something new, a Beginners’ Clay Pigeon Introduction is planned for 17th May at Lings Clay Ground near Wellington.

We’re also exploring a non-competitive steel shooting session at Budleigh, with the date and feasibility still to be confirmed. The idea of shooting abroad is on the table too and we are deciding on the destination and format.

We’re awaiting an update from AB regarding a possible Target Cross/Sprint induction, and I will be organising some LSR prone sessions at the Club soon.

Finally, Tibor and myself are teaming up to run an internal timed shooting competition.

Plenty to look forward to — and something for everyone, whether you’re in it for the scores or just the fun.

Exeter & District Summer League

We have a strong entrance into the Summer League this year with 22 LSR and 4 Long Arm entries confirmed. Cards will be available week commencing 27th April — please collect promptly.

Final Word

Congratulations to all involved this winter. It’s the consistency and discipline that matters. Let’s carry that into summer and maybe enjoy a bit of sunshine while we’re at it.
