Visit to Vickers Collection
Join us on Sunday 10th of December for a captivating journey into the world of firearms history! We are excited to invite you to an exclusive visit to the Vickers MG Collection & Research Association, near Swindon. Where you’ll have the opportunity to explore a treasure trove of weaponry and experience the magic of historical firearms up close.
Before you embark on this enlightening adventure, take a moment to watch this YouTube video that offers an intriguing glimpse into the association and what you can expect during your visit.
What to Expect
As you arrive at the association, you’ll be greeted with warm smiles and an introduction to the collection. Learn about the fascinating history behind the Vickers MG and get to know the extensive array of guns on display. Currently, there are 32 fully working Vickers Machines on view, and lots of other historic firearms from the last century.
Experience the thrill of a blank firing demonstration from the Vickers and possibly even a Bren. Depending on the group’s interest, we might be surprised with a few other captivating displays.
Ever wondered about the inner workings of these remarkable weapons? We’ll delve into the intricacies as we strip and clean the guns. It’s a unique opportunity to understand the mechanics and craftsmanship that went into creating these historic firearms.
To sustain the collection and support the dedicated volunteers who make this experience possible, the association kindly suggest a donation of around £20. Your contribution helps cover the costs of maintaining this exceptional display and provides the ammunition necessary for their engaging demonstrations.
For those who fancy a bite to eat before a tour of the collection you can join other attendees with a lunch at the Brewers Arms, located conveniently close to the collection at SN4 0AE.
We encourage attendees to share transportation and consider arranging car sharing. For those who wish to share, you can meet at the Pinhoe Target Shooting Club, just off M5 J29 on the Sunday morning and leave your vehicles in our secure car park.
