The Critical Link Between Mind, Body, and Bullseye

In target shooting, the trigger is where everything comes together. You can have perfect sight alignment, solid position, and total control over your breathing — but a poor trigger release will ruin the shot.

Understanding how triggers work, and learning to control them consistently, is one of the most important skills any shooter can develop. Whether you’re shooting Prone, Benchrest, LSR, or 10m Air Pistol, trigger control is where precision meets practice.

What Is Triggering?

Triggering refers to the process of firing the shot — from the moment your finger makes contact with the trigger to the point the pellet or bullet leaves the barrel. Good triggering should be:

  • Deliberate but unforced
  • Consistent
  • Isolated from body movement
  • Timed at the right moment in your shot process

Why Triggering Matters

Even the smallest inconsistency in trigger control can throw off a shot, especially in precision disciplines. Jerking, flinching, dragging the shot — all of these are signs of poor triggering.

Proper trigger technique helps:

  • Prevent shot disturbance during release
  • Build subconscious consistency
  • Reduce shot anxiety or hesitation
  • Improve grouping and score reliability

What Can Go Wrong?

  • Anticipating the shot and “snatching” the trigger
  • Flinching at the moment of release
  • Applying lateral or uneven pressure
  • Inconsistent finger placement
  • Misunderstanding the trigger’s stages or weight

What You’ll Learn on Our Course

Our  short course will help you refine your technique through both theory and practice. You’ll learn:

  • How different trigger mechanisms work (single-stage, two-stage, electronic)
  • The correct way to place your finger for your grip and discipline
  • Dry-firing drills to build control and reduce anticipation
  • Mental routines for calming the shot process
  • How to adapt your trigger technique for different shooting styles (Prone, Benchrest, LSR, Air)

Whether you’re building a new technique or correcting long-standing habits, this course is suitable for shooters at all levels.
