About the Pinhoe Trophy

The Pinhoe Trophy is our most prestigious competition, first awarded in 1968. It is an open shoot, held at the Pinhoe TSC ranges in Exeter on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2026, and this year it covers four disciplines: Prone, Benchrest, LSR and 10m Air (pistol and rifle).

Each discipline has a team competition for teams of three shooters. The team that scores highest wins the Pinhoe Trophy, which stays at Pinhoe with the winners' names added. Every team shooter also counts in an individual competition, shot in classes.

Competitions

Every team member shoots three cards. Each member chooses their own start (CYOS), which is declared before they shoot and which is added to their total.

Individual competition

The individual competition is included in the team entry and is scored on the aggregate of the first two team cards. Shooters may wish to shoot for the highest score on those first two cards and then try to achieve their chosen start on the third team card.

For 10m Air the individual score is the aggregate of the first four five-shot team cards, and shooters may try to achieve their chosen start on the remaining team card.

Individual competitions are split into classes depending on entries and the averages submitted on the entry form.

Individual time-limit competition (optional)

An optional extra for each discipline:

  • Prone, Benchrest and LSR: one extra card in 90 seconds
  • 10m Air (Pistol and Rifle): two extra ten-shot cards in 120 seconds

Prizes

  • Team competition: the team with the highest score is awarded the Pinhoe Trophy, plus medals for 1st and 2nd according to entries.
  • Individual competitions: medals for 1st and 2nd in each class, according to entries.
  • Juniors: a medal for the top Junior in each individual competition.

Juniors are those under 18 on the day of the shoot.

Squads and timetable

The meeting is squadded in one-hour squads, with squads starting every hour from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both days. When you enter, please choose your squad times in order of preference using the squad timetable.

Squads are lettered by day: A to H on Saturday 7 November and J to Q on Sunday 8 November. Each competition has its own squad number. For example, squad A10 is the 9:00 AM Prone squad on Saturday, and squad A20 is the 9:00 AM Benchrest squad.

Who can enter?

The Pinhoe Trophy is an open shoot, welcoming shooters from any club. Teams are formed of three shooters, and the team organiser enters them all on one team entry form.

Juniors are welcome and compete for the Junior medal. Classes depend on entries and on the averages you submit.
