Discover Target Shooting
What it is, why people love it, and the disciplines waiting once you decide to try.
Why target shooting?
Target shooting is a precision sport that combines mental focus, body control, and technical craft. It rewards calm, consistency, and clear thinking — and it's accessible to a much wider range of people than most newcomers expect.
A genuine Olympic sport
Target shooting is an Olympic and Paralympic discipline with a clear pathway from club to international competition.
A mental discipline
Develop exceptional concentration, breathing control, and emotional regulation under pressure — skills that transfer beyond the range.
Open to all ages and abilities
From age 10 to 80+, with adaptive equipment for shooters with disabilities. Men and women compete on equal terms.
Safe, quiet, and indoor
Strictly governed by the NSRA and British Shooting. Most disciplines at Pinhoe are indoor, climate-controlled, and quieter than you might expect.
Disciplines hosted at Pinhoe TSC
Three discipline groups, ten individual disciplines. Pick the group that fits your interest — each links through to detailed pages on the individual disciplines within.
Air Rifle & Pistol
Olympic precision air pistol and rifle (10m), plus prone air rifle and benchrest. No FAC needed — the easiest place to start.
Smallbore Rifle
Four .22LR disciplines: prone, benchrest, lightweight sporting rifle, and three-position. Pinhoe's deepest history — the Pinhoe Trophy has run since 1968.
Practical Shooting
Dynamic indoor air-pistol shooting at multiple targets with movement and a running clock. Action Air format — no FAC required.
Three more disciplines, not hosted here
Full-bore rifle, shotgun, and field target are major UK disciplines that Pinhoe TSC doesn't host. We'll point you to the right national body and club resources for each.

Most members start with the Give it a Go programme — three one-hour sessions for £50 (£30 under-18s), all kit provided, no commitment beyond the three sessions. Air rifle, air pistol, and benchrest are the most common starting disciplines.
For the practical detail — what to expect, what to wear, costs over time, and the legal background — see the getting started guide.
