Air Rifle & Pistol
Quiet, precise, and accessible — air disciplines are how many shooters start, and where Olympians compete.
What it is
Air rifles and pistols use compressed air or CO₂ to fire small lead pellets at 10–25 metre indoor targets. Modern air guns are highly accurate, quiet, and don't require an FAC — under UK law (up to 12 ft·lbs) you can buy and own them freely. They're the most common starting point in target shooting, and the only disciplines contested at the Olympics in precision form.
Pinhoe TSC hosts four air disciplines covering Olympic precision, the prone variant, and benchrest. All shot on our indoor 6m and 10m air ranges.
Disciplines
10m Air Pistol
Olympic precision pistol shooting at 10 metres. Single-handed standing, no support. Develops the steadiest hold and the cleanest trigger release in shooting.
10m Air Rifle
Olympic precision rifle shooting at 10 metres. Standing position with a fitted jacket and sling. Mental focus and breathing control are everything.
Prone Air Rifle
Air rifle shot from the prone position — relaxed, bone-supported, with the sling taking the rifle weight. A bridge to .22LR prone for many shooters.
Air Rifle Benchrest
Air rifle shot from a supported benchrest. The discipline of ultimate accuracy — the smallest possible groups at 25 metres.
