Dan Truscott

Background

Dan is a qualified and experienced target shooting coach with a particular specialism in standing rifle. He is the LSR Captain at Pinhoe Target Shooting Club and supports shooters across a wide range of disciplines, from beginners learning safe handling and range craft to experienced athletes looking to improve structure, consistency and performance.

Dan began target shooting at around fourteen, starting with prone rifle through the Air Training Corps and a small private rifle club in Teignmouth, which used an indoor range in the grounds of Teignmouth Grammar School. That early introduction gave him a lasting appreciation for good coaching, safe practice and the quiet discipline that underpins accurate shooting.

For fun, Dan also shoots centre-fire F-Class, Gallery Rifle and Action Air, giving him a broad view of the sport.

Coaching philosophy

Dan believes in a holistic, athlete-centred approach to coaching. His style is calm, practical and process-led, helping shooters break complex skills into clear, repeatable steps. Drawing on his professional background in advertising and design agency production, he brings structure, creativity and clear communication to his coaching.

He is especially interested in standing rifle, where balance, position, mindset and shot routine all need to work together. Above all, Dan aims to make learning purposeful, enjoyable and rewarding, helping each shooter develop confidence as well as skill.
