Air pistol training with the East Devon Pony Club

Junior members of the East Devon Pony Club have been coming to Pinhoe for regular 10m air pistol training sessions, fully supported by our coaches on the firing point.

The children really enjoy the sessions — and as the targets they take home show, they're shooting well too.

Why Pony Club members shoot

Shooting is one of the core Pony Club sports. In Tetrathlon, competitors combine riding, running, swimming and shooting, with every phase counting towards their overall score. The winter Triathlon drops the riding phase and comes down to running, swimming and shooting alone.

The shooting phase is 10m air pistol: a series of timed shots at turning targets, shot one-handed in the older age groups. It rewards exactly what our coaches teach — a calm routine, a steady position and a clean trigger release — and a good score here can move a competitor right up the placings.

Training on a proper indoor 10m range, with qualified coaches and club pistols provided, means the Pony Club youngsters can build those skills safely and see their progress week by week.
