The Safety Essentials for Target Shooting course is designed for anyone new to shooting — or anyone supporting others on the range — who needs a clear, practical understanding of core safety procedures.

Covering both .22LR livefire and airgun disciplines (pistol and rifle), this short course ensures that participants understand how to handle firearms and airguns safely, follow range commands confidently, and contribute to a safe and supportive shooting environment.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for:

  • New shooters at the start of their training or probation
  • Parents or guardians supporting junior members
  • Club volunteers who assist on the firing point
  • Anyone wanting a structured refresher in safe shooting practices

No prior experience is required — just a willingness to learn and a focus on safe behaviour.

  • Basic firearms and airgun safety
  • How to handle rifles and pistols safely on and off the firing point
  • Common causes of accidents (and how to prevent them)
  • Understanding and following range commands
  • Safety differences between airguns and .22LR livefire
  • What to do in the event of a misfire, jam, or unsafe situation
  • Safe movement, storage, and etiquette in club environments
